Conceal Carpet Seams With a Seam Roller

DIY carpet installation can look like a professional job when you use the right tools. When installing carpeting in a large room or in more than one room at a time, you may have to deal with concealing a carpet seam where two pieces of carpeting meet. For best results, secure the seam with carpet tape, and then go over it with a seam roller.

The type of seam roller you choose may depend on the style of carpet you're installing. A smooth seam roller will help the adhesive bond without snagging the carpet. To blend the carpet fibers and conceal the seam, choose a spiked star seam roller.

Once you've chosen the right carpet and calculated the amount of carpeting you need, decide how you're going to secure it to the floor. A tack strip is a great option for laying carpet over a concrete floor. For other types of flooring — such as laminate or vinyl — double-sided carpet tape is fast and sufficient.
