Stock Up on Roofing Screws

Skipping out on the right kind of roofing screws has long-term consequences when it comes to securing a solid roof. A poorly screwed-down roof will eventually leak and buckle, and the roof will need to be replaced after a shorter period of time. Roofing projects are technical and can be dangerous, so check out our roofing installation services if you need a hand with roofing.

Roofing experts can choose from a variety of quality water-resistant metal roofing screws. Galvanized and zinc-plated screws prevent corrosion of the steel that's commonly used for roofing screws. Metal-to-metal, metal-to-wood and universal screws are available depending on the bottom surfaces you're working with. See our Screws Buying Guide for more information on coverings, screw materials and base materials.

Screw length and thickness are also important to consider — you'll choose based on your roof's specifications. Exterior screws should be long enough to enter at least half the thickness of the bottom material. A screw's gauge determines its thickness in diameter. #12 to #14 gauge screws are the toughest option for especially dense and heavy materials.
