Electrical struts, also called channel struts, are
designed for mounting, supporting and connecting lightweight structure designs
in building construction work. These can include electrical, plumbing and data
lines. Larger struts are designed for air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Struts are formed from a metal sheet that is folded into the open
channel shape. This u-shape will also have edges that curve inwards to provide
rigidity and as a mounting location for additional channels. The struts also
have open slots on the bottom or flat side for connecting more struts or to
fasten them to the walls and ceilings of the building. Struts are available in many
precut lengths, with 10 feet being a common size.
Linking struts together is a quick and easy task, with specific strut nuts and bolts designed
for each type of channel. Along with the strut use in building construction,
they can make sturdy frames for shelving, material racks and even a workbench. Shop
Lowe’s to find the right pieces of electrical strut you need to run and protect
your wiring and cables.
