Keep freshly set concrete intact and prolong the life of your existing driveway or sidewalk with concrete expansion joints and fillers. A concrete expansion joint allows for the concrete to expand and contract in fluctuating temperatures without disturbing adjoining slabs of concrete or whatever surface the concrete abuts to. For help choosing the right concrete for your project, check out our buying guide — Concrete Buying Guide — for tips.
To control cracking before it happens, cut control joints with a grooving tool. See our guide — How to Build a Concrete Slab — for step-by-step instructions on DIY concrete pouring. If the control joints have worked correctly, any cracking over time should occur in a straight line, making repairs much simpler.
Concrete expansion joint filler works to fill in cracks from control joints and expansion joints that may be unsightly and growing weeds. These fillers come in a roll and can be trimmed to fit. An alternative to the caulking-style filler, these joint fillers simply press down into the crack and prevent weeds from growing through. They can be easily removed if needed.
