If you're preparing to install a new backsplash in your kitchen or tiles in your bathroom, a rubber grout float is essential for applying and smoothing the grout or mortar between the tiles. Floats for grout feature a soft rubber or foam pad attached to a handle to apply grout without scratching your tile.
There are larger metal and magnesium floats for smoothing concrete slabs, and they easily attach to telescoping poles. The top-rated Marshalltown bull float features a pure magnesium float for durability and is available in large and hand-held versions. Hand-held floats are ideal for finishing smaller areas. If you'd like a slightly rougher finish to your concrete, such as for slip-resistant steps, a wooden masonry float is a great choice because it levels the concrete without making it overly smooth or slick.
For installing quartz or marble tile, consider a softer neoprene float for applying grout without scratching your tiles. This is an ideal option when you're creating a kitchen backsplash or repairing grout in a few spots.
