How Often Should You Change Your Alen Air Purifier Filters?

As a general rule, plan on replacing the primary HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter in a room air purifier at least every 12 months. This time period is based on how long the air purifier runs each day, and may vary by the volume of particles in the air, as well as the filter and purifier type. For example, replacing air purifier filters every 12 months is usually suitable for air purifiers that run for about 6 hours a day. If a purifier runs continually every day, replace its filter at least every 3 months. Check your device manual for specifics. Many air purifiers have indicators that make it easy to know when the filter needs replacement.

Why Should You Replace Air Purifier Filters Regularly?

Regularly replacing your filter helps your air purifier run efficiently so you can get the cleanest air possible. As a filter collects dust, pollen, etc., these particles reduce the airflow. Without good airflow through the filter, an air purifier can’t clean the room air effectively. Also, over time, a clogged filter can cause excess wear on the device.

Some air purifiers have additional filters. A carbon filter that removes odors from the air may need replacing every three to six months to work correctly. If your device has a prefilter that you can clean, check it monthly and clean as needed.

At Lowe’s we have a wide range of filters to fit your air purifiers. You may want to consider having a spare filter ready when it’s time for replacement.
