allen + roth 35000 -BTU Black Vent-free Dual-Burner Gas Fireplace Insert with Thermostat

I bought this item last year at a substantial discount. The flames look great and this unit puts out a ton off heat. Easy to start, and it has a sensor that detects co2. I love it.

Over advertised

This item does not function as advertised. The flames are understandable not appealing and there is very little heat generated. I put it back in the box and plan to return.

Love it but leaves black smoke residue everywhere

I absolutely loved this when we installed it, but since then I had to take it out. There is black smoke residue everywhere on the walls, it even caused this residue on the second floor split unit (its installed on first floor bedroom fireplace). The residue is on the white toilet, on my water bottle, just everywhere! I wish I knew what is wrong because I love it. Is it not meant for inside? We have the fireplace vent open, Help!

Inaccurate arrival time

Haven’t installed the insert yet as it arrived days later than indicated when I ordered it!

NO THERMOSTAT

This item positively DOES NOT have a thermostat. The knob on the front simply turns on the pilot, turns on the gas to the burner and adjusts the height of the flame, just like a burner on your gas stove. There is no thermostat and no simple way to add one. It does put out the heat, but you have to constantly adjust it manually.
