the i8nstaller who was scheduled to install both my Bosch cooktop & the "Telescoping Steel Downdraft Range Hood" did not install this device because, "It was too heavy/bulky for 1 technician to install. The size, weight, & dimensions are clearly noted on the packaging for an appointment that was scheduled 3 weeks in advance. Inexcusable for a lack of knowledge & preparation. broken in 3 mo
THe down draft is beautiful and goes very high off the counter to really capture the smells and smoke. It comes slightly off the counter when it is all the way down and sleek. The only issues is after 3 months it doesnt work. Other reviews highlighted it, and i got the extended warranty. But was expecting to at least hit past the 1 yr mark.

Stopped telescoping after 3 uses
After only three uses, this unit won't telescope up and down automatically when I push the button. I have the hold the button down until it reaches the correct height. When retracting, I have to hold the button the whole time and release exactly as it hits the base, or it starts coming up again.

Buy an extended warranty!
Buy and extended warranty if you get this hood - I'm certainly glad I did! This downdraft worked great for 14 months and moves alot of air, then just went kaput one day while running. I called Lowes service and they are great, scheduling a service for next week. Hopefully they can fix it without much difficulty.

A Decent Vent But...
This vent was installed by a builder. The vent was not anchored properly, so it wobbled when turned on. About one month later it was broken and replaced. The other problem was the air duck connected to the air outlet. The air flow had to make three turns before it went out. The seemed to weaken the sucking power of the vent. I am not sure if this is also the cause of the broken one. It is a decent vent. But, if it is not installed right, problems will appear.
