Ladder does not swap sides, if you need the rails up.
The bunkbed was as expected and good quality, but the reason I only gave it 3 stars is because the ladder cannot be switched to the other side. More specifically, the top rails cannot be swapped; therefore, you can't move the ladder without having a kid climb over the rail.
