This product arrived quickly and pick up was flawless. I have never seen a barrel cut in half for a planter and was excited to get them. I was taken aback when I noticed the insides were charred (burnt). After reading about how the barrels are prepared for whisky I realized this process was normal. The scorching process creates a protective layer of carbon that acts much like horticultural charcoal, resisting rot, mold, and insect infestations. You do not need to scrub it out before planting....

Sturdy, authentic whiskey barrels. You can even smell the whiskey still. The only thing I don't love is how rusty the metal straps are but it's part of the authentic charm I suppose since they are used.
