I purchased forty pounds of Pennington Smart Seeds for the South. After aerating the soil, seeding, and covering with a light soil layer in early April, the grass sprouted fine. Come June when the temperatures reached 90 degrees or more, the grass yellowed a bit and thinned out and became sparce looking. I believe the only seeds germinated were the annual rye grass which cannot tolerate Louisiana heat. In Pennington's defense, Baton Rouge does not lay in the green area of the map. Make sure you ...
