The product color did not match the brochure. Not even close.

Super thick

The tint options are nice and im sure it would work good for some applications. However, for me it was too thick and was almost an opaque not showing any wood grain. I did a small area test on a separate piece and it looked ok on a test piece of alder. Now the real test… a fully prepped alder guitar body. Results…. Awful… almost a paint covering all wood grain. I eventually sanded all that off and went in a different direction. Steer clear of this if you want a uniform and clean stain. Not sure ...

Avoid this product unless you know how to use it.

Hindsight, I shouldn't have bought this product. It's a water-based wood stain, and what I really wanted was a tinted polyurethane finish. Well, decided that since I got it home, might as well roll with it. I've worked with stains before, so no problem working with them again. Wrong ... this is an awful product to work with. Well, not great

The associate indicated little knowledge of the product. Only had one small color panel in the drawer. Picked a mid brown and it was tan. He remixed for a dark brown. Looked better. Ended up mid brown…. Not great coverage either.

Horrible Stain - 0 Stars

This is the worst stain on the market. I've been using Minwax products for decades and never had a problem like this. I tried this water-based stain and it was a disaster. It is way, way, too thick to practically use. Terrible application; severe blotches; uneven application; just horrible. I ended up spending a whole day re-sanding my tabletop to remove the stain and I'm going to start over with a traditional oil-based stain which is easy to apply. Unreliable and bad customer support

They sent a unmixed can of stain base(as in there was no dye in the stain). I tried to contact customer support to get a replacement and they suggested I return the product to a store 300 miles away just to get a refund. The entire interaction could have just been copy and pasted from customer service pamphlet. The issue was never resolved.

Oil based is better despite the cleanup

It dries way too fast and doesn’t flow well. Sure, it cleans up easily, but it dries really quickly leaving blotches. I think I’m going back to oil based. This stuff is finicky.

They Delivered the Wrong Item

I ordered Minwax Red Mahogony Stain and I was excited to receive it two hours later with same day delivery, so I could finish my project, but they delivered Minwax Clear Base Tint. So, now I have to go through the hassle of driving 45 minutes to the nearest Lowes and standing in line at customer service to return it.

This has no color whatsoever

Purchased for shipping, delivered, but it is definitely not phantom gray. It has no color at all.

Do not order for delivery!

I recently bough 3 cans of colored stain (semi-transparent but still colored). 3 cans of uncolored stain arrived. When calling customer service the agent said it has to be returned in store, but I live over an hour away so it's cheaper to buy new stain. I told the customer service rep that I did a test spot and it is clear and he tried to tell me that semi-transparent is clear and wouldn't understand that ordering semi-transparent colored stain shouldn't be clear.
