Would rather use water based than oil based. All of my research ultimately led me to purchase Minwax water based solid stain. The best stain for the Wooden flags that I make. As far as the colors go, nothing else comes close.

This is a great product, but unfortunately, when you order it online from Lowes you may only get a can of the base un-tinted product. I am not sure why Lowes does this, but this is my third try and each time I only received the un-tinted base. When I called customer service, the rep told me their system would not let them offer a replacement or provide a refund, so they passed me off to the store who shipped it. If you need a black stain, this is it!!
Overall was great product. Left a satin finish and I was able to darken the board to a really nice black. The consistancy of the stain was a little thicker than I wanted but it worked out. Make sure you stain and wipe in the direction of the wood grain.

I live 40 miles away from the nearest Lowes. so I ordered a quart of this online. Unfortunately, rather than send the Cherry-Blossom tinted version I ordered, they sent the clear base product with no tint.
