Sorry I ever bought.

Leaking oil from the start. Wanted to replace gaskets from place that was not leaking. I regret this investment that is disassembled as of no use awaiting them to do anything.

I have the 20RCA & love it

Install in September 2023. Plumber and electrician did great jobs. Natural gas. Two PG&E outages since then and my Kohler worked beautifully. It is slightly louder than I expected. Barely noticeable when the power went off and came back on. My neighbors have portable generators and they are jealous.

Reliability has been top notch

This is the 3rd year of my ownership of the 20 KW version and it has been reliable in every respect. It is well built, the cabinet is very good quality, but the outstanding thing is its reliability. Kohler manufactures to a higher standard compared to a couple of other companies.

I installed our KOHLER 14RCAL July 2021, a few months after the big "Texas Freeze". Crazy storms aside, we lose power roughly 20-30 times per year due to this and that, although usually it's not very long periods, this is great peace of mind. In all cases, the Kohler comes to life and does its thing. Ours is connected to the utility natural gas, and it is impressive to see how much power our "14 kW" gen set can pump out. It is a great product, and we're definitely very happy with our investment...

I bought our Kohler 20KW and auto transfer switch almost 4 years ago. Since I have been a General Contractor for almost 40 years I have seen loads generators installed and serviced. For my house and my money I chose Kohler because of their reputation for reliability. Sign up for yearly service and change starting battery every 2 years for no worries ever about the unit not working.

Reliability

Bought our Kohler 20resd in 2015 and is still going strong and no sign of quitting even after going through IDA running 14 days straight. Proper maintenance and having the right company install are key

Engine Seized after 3 months

Installed in Nov 2022 and the engine seized in Jan 2023 I think it may have run a total of 1 hour over that time period. A new unit is being installed next week hopefully it lasts longer than 3 months.

10 yrs and 982 hrs later still working like new

The secret to keeping anything running like a top for years is religious maintenance. Bought our generator in 2013, only used it mainly during Winter and Spring seasons in Northern CA. It's a backup to our 4KWh battery bank array. No major repairs so far, just regular maintenance 6-12/mo. intervals and 3-6/mo. visual inspection. I purchased this generator several months ago and I am very pleased with it. So far, I have only lost power one time, but the system performed as it was supposed to do so and I was without power for perhaps 10 seconds. I definitely recommend Kohler as the brand to get for a home generator, particularly since I researched the other brands and they have not received rave reviews. I am a Kohler customer for life.
