I just came back from and extended (snow bird) absence and noticed a leak from under my bathtub after taking a shower. Sure enough, there was water dripping from my Kohler Cable Bath Drain. If you search the web you will find many, many others who have had the same experience. This drain has been in place for years and just started leaking so I assume the little o-ring that provides the only seal at the actuator lever has dried out or has worn out. Leaks at the control box, causing damage below the tub
It seems to be a pretty common failure, but the control box that the cable connects to ends up leaking over time. I don't know why they put a small access panel with two screws on it when it's an obvious failure point, but whatever gasket is in there just deteriorates over time. Water from the bathtub ends up shooting out of the seams of this box, which ruined my downstairs bathroom wall. Exceeds our expectations!!!
We bought this for our new cast iron Kohler tub. It was the only one available with the oil-rubbed bronze finish. It's beautiful, fit perfectly and very efficient. Just turn the overfill valve and it plugs the drain. Also the plug easily pops off to remove hair from the trap. Just installed so haven't been able to see how good it catches hair yet.

Its a Kohler...that says it all !
This is an old fashion drain. Simply turn the knob and it opens or closes the drain. The package came short a setscrew. I called Kohler and told them, they sent the screw over night.

I mean why would anyone buy an off brand once you decided to go Koehler on a tub?! I of course wish it was little less expensive but I sure understand the value here.
