Thanks for ruining my project
Project I’ve been meaning to get to for years ruined in 20 minutes by this garbage product. Screw after screw broke apart in my window frame, even with pilot holes drilled. Whatever happened to quality? These screws snapped like toothpicks, even being screwed slowly and gently into pilot holes. Can’t tell you how beyonduu upset I am at the Hillman brand. They sell a subpar product, but I guess it doesn’t affect them - they’ve got my money. They’re not there to fix my beautiful solid wood window ...

Pretty, but predrill and prethread
Brass screws are a nice touch for small projects with brass hardware. They are much more likely to break than regular steel screws though, so to help prevent breaking the head off a screw, drill the appropriate pilot hole first, then use a steel screw of the same size as the brass screw you intend to use to "prethread" the screw holes

Don't buy: these snap easily. All 10x did for me!
Every single one of these I screwed in broke - top snapped off, even when using pre-drilled holes and hand-screwing them in. Different wood types: they broke. Different pre-drilled hole sizes: they broke. The first one that broke was with a drill, so I hand-screwed the rest in. All the remainder that broke after that were hand screwed. I'm not that strong. These are just that brittle.

Beautiful Finish Screws
Beautiful screws and hold tightly most of the time. However, I had a few break while screwing into a knot on cedarwood. Otherwise, these screws serve both aesthetic and practice uses very well.

Brass? So many alloys make up brass so what is it?
Why do these break so easily? The fine print reads 'brass finish' not solid brass. There are numerous mixes of metals (alloys) that can be called brass. Soft brass, hard brass, red brass, yellow brass. Technically these could be brass plated zinc or pot metal. Consumers are being squeezed by manufacturers and retailers with poor quality and continually rising prices. Corporations are now 'people', the worst kind, shameless and greedy.

Too weak to use
We bought a box of these to hang cabinet doors after misplacing the original screws. The holes were already drilled. Using a drill, we managed to break two screws (the first of 3 used). Then, we pulled out a screwdriver, hoping it would get the job done… alas, with the screwdriver, we managed to break another one before giving up entirely. Not a great purchase. But something else.
