What Customers Are Saying
The Venus fly trap is a mixed bag for customers. While some found it an interesting and relatively easy-to-care-for plant, others struggled with its specific care requirements, leading to plants that did not thrive or died. The plant requires precise conditions like using only distilled or rainwater, ample sunlight, and specialized soil. Customers who followed these instructions were often able to successfully grow healthy plants and enjoy watching them catch insects. However, the plants can be finicky, and several customers reported their plants arriving in poor condition or not surviving long after purchase. Overall, the Venus fly trap may not be suitable for all customers, but for those willing to provide the necessary care, it can be a rewarding and unique addition to a plant collection.

I bought a handful of them since 2021 and the first thing you want to do is toss out the instructions that comes with these plants unless you want them to die within a few months. You want to repot them in a larger pot it originally comes in (I'd say 6" wide pots that are at least 4" deep. Use a 50/50 mixture of peat moss and perlite and make sure you use distilled water or ZeroWater. Regular tap water or spring water contains minerals that can kill the plants. As for lighting, the best thi...
Good product bad packaging
It's a potted plant. That eats bugs. How cool is that??? Flytraps are relatively easy to maintain as long as they're not neglected. You can only use rainwater or distilled water for them & they must be kept moist. They WILL NOT address a fly problem, even a large healthy plant can only catch a few flys a week. The mini terrarium they come in is not suitable to keep the plants in long term, their purpose is strictly for protecting the plant until purchace. I bought 2 flytraps from Lowe's las...

Bulbs are healthy, kit is lacking and misleading
First, this is not how these plants should be cared for. These plants are NOT meant to be inside a terrarium. They can be grown outside in full sun. The pot is going to need upsizing. The soil is not what is recommended among the carniverous plant growing community. I put my rhizomes that came in the kit into a medium of 100% unfertilized orchid moss (plain sphagnum would be better), and bought the 89cent plastic saucers to use as pots. I dont think the directions mention either that *TAP WATER ...
Pete the Flytrap Plant
Though it wasn’t in the best of health, it was definitely better than any I have seen at any hardware store. I bought it for my coworker’s office since our workplace is going through a bit of infestation of flies and mosquitoes. Well it hasn’t caught anything on its own, Pete has become a part of both our days, and he is growing so fast. He’s already grown two new heads with a third sprouting.

Took a chance and lost
I knew I was taking a chance buying this as it had one black head on it at the store. The other two plants available had more than one. By the end of the day, there was another blackened plant, and two days later, they were all dead. Right now, there is one little green stem in the center, but I'm not sure it's going to make it. Lesson learned. I really wanted this for my classroom at school.

Surpisingly worth buying
I travel more than 30 miles to Berkeley in order to get carnivorous plants, so I was quite surprised to find my local Lowe's had a wide selection of plants. The pants were healthy, well cared for, and beautiful. The packaging is rather small, so one of my picthers was caught between the plastic containers (careless packager), but I must admit that generous amounts of sphagnum moss was included. My two plants are thriving. All they need is sunlight and daily doses of distilled water. They are ac...
Getting rid of tiny house flies
We have a bunch of little fruit flies and gnats. The hope is to get rid of them. We’ve had a tough time knowing how much/little water to give the plant. So hopefully we can keep it alive! So it eats the bugs

CarniCredible!!
This carnivorous plant are quite amusing! I purchased the venus flytrap at my local Lowe's and I was excited to find them... luckly, I found the last 2 on the shelf and even luckier to find them healthy enough to neglect them (not intentionally) while I researched for their proper care. They sit on my window seal by the kitchen sink, and even though I keep most flies out, when they manage to get in, I root for our venus to get a healthy meal ;). I recommend parents to have one, my little on...

Venus fly trap
My son wanted a Venus fly trap and very pleased with the one we found at Lowe’s. It’s in great shape and works to catch flies and insects.

Not enough info provided (by the nursery vendor)
The fly trap was healthy, however the potting medium it was planted in is only for short term care and that info is not provided on the care tips from the vendor. Luckily I’ve had traps in the past so I knew that the plant needed a very specific soil blend that wouldn’t burn the roots.
