Fine till not
It is fine till it’s not. It is underpowered for the size of the opening. It slows down significantly when using on the upper end of the size limit. Bolts on blades fractured off and destroyed the drum.

Never picked it up. Came with my truck to tow it home, and they brought out a box. Asked if they could assemble it. Still waiting for it.

great performance
very happy with the performance but the documentation is lacking. Not much in the way of maintenance - grease zerks on drum bearings but no grease type, quantity, or intervals - drum blades can be reversed but no mention of the gap to set to - no info on belt tension or how to tension - confusing information on clutch/gear case, some say part of engine oil but other documentation for the 395 show separate oil and interval as well as saying both 2:1 and 6:1 reduction gear case. Does not chip up to 5"
I had a 3" chipper that worked great but due to poor craftsmanship it broke down relatively quickly. I figured if I purchased a better quality chipper it would last longer. I have had this chipper for several months and I am really disappointed with it. It will not chip any branch bigger than 3". Anything bigger and it gets stuck, wood starts to burn, and smoke pours out of the chute. I have tried calling customer service to return but they have yet to answer the phone so I gave up. Frustrating experience
Be prepared to deal with an insanely (357 lbs) heavy unit. The expulsion chute came tightly packed into the feeder chute, so much so that I couldn't separate the two. They were jammed together. DK product support was a total dud. No answer, no follow up on my messages. I finally gave up and contacted Lowe's about a return. I have no idea if it's a good unit because I couldn't assemble it due to the silly packing issue. That's frustrating.

Robust Chipper
Very robust machine. Arrives well packaged. It’s heavy, so get some help with assembly. Use the on-line assembly manual so you can zoom in on the photos. Started right up. I bogged it down with some four to five inch branches, but it never stalled and somehow kept on chewing. We are very happy with the resulting wood chips.
