Last year I bought a raised wooden planter to grow some veggies on my deck. I used the Burpee16 Cell Self-Watering Ultimate Grow System to start Sweetheart of the Patio Tomato and Confetti Hybrid Sweet Pepper seeds with great success. This year, I decided to use this seed starting mix in the 3" Biodegradable Plantable Round Fiber Pots for the Sweetheart of the Patio Tomato seeds. I followed the instructions on the package and the seeds germinated in 5 days. Three weeks later and there has been...

Not good for 2026
I use this seed starting mix every yr and this is the first time this yr. My onions germinated then stopped growing. Even with added nutrients.

Should not be sold - Seed Starting Mix
Seeds germinated beautifully - and then nothing. Complete failure to thrive - development of root structure non existent. Something is really really wrong with this mix - it has no nutrients or structure to support growth from seeds to seedling. We are talking tomatoes and chile peppers - which I have successfully grown from seed for 40+ years. First and last time using this Seed Starting Mix.

Seeds started fine.
Started seeds in this mix, unamended. Watered with chamomile, dusted with cinnamon. Grew into established seedlings. Then, I gave them liquid feed. Kept young plants in this same non-nutritive mix indefinitely (while feeding with every watering).

Our favorite Seed Starting mix!
We have been using this seed starting mix for 3-4 years now and it has helped us have the most bountiful garden in the neighborhood. So much so that we regularly donate vegetables from our garden to our local church to help underprivileged families. Thanks for making such a wonderful product.

awful stuff
My seeds did the same thing as all the other reviewers did. Seeds germinated then nothing. Growth stalled and now I have wasted money and time on garbage. I dumped the rest of the bag into my compost box so it could be of some use. Its now diluted into kitchen scraps. I'll make my own soils like I have done for years.

My Seedlings Stalled! The worst starts in 40 years!
I had high hopes for this—it is easy to use, get moist quickly. But, oh my. I now have to transplant all my seedlings if I can even hope for something. Never again. Bring back peat.

Not Eco-friendly
I bought this seed starting mix containing coir & ALL the seeds are stunted. I have never had such poor germination. Most of the seeds germinated, however, they did not grow beyond about 1 to 1 1/2 inch. Then the leaves turned pale & haven't grown any since. I did put some of the vegetable seedlings into the garden, but they have not grown there, either. The seeds that were placed in a different seed starting mix are growing well and very robust. I think it is the coir in the mix!

My Seedlings Stopped Growing
I have been growing tomato and bell pepper plants from seed for over 15 years using various seed starting mixes and mediums without any problems or issues. This is the first time I used Burpee's Eco Friendly Organic Seed Starting Mix. WHAT A MISTAKE! I am about to loose approximately 90 seedlings. The seeds germinate, grow 2 starter leaves, and then stop producing more leaves. This is happening to both peppers and tomatoes of 6 different varieties. Everything has come to a screeching halt....

A Waste of Time and Money!
This starting mix allowed my seeds to germinate, however It does not provide a suitable structure for healthy root development.
