not plastic; hopefully won't crack
We bought two mats to protect the rugs and hardwood floor in my husband's office. They shouldn't crack or break like the typical chair mats purchase in office supply stores. A much better alternative than what we have had previously. Exactly what we were looking for.

Needs improvement
Before ordering this mat, I asked and was told, it could be used on tile floors. They failed to mention that the mat ""walks"" all over the floor. I have to reposition the mat every couple of days. I expected better.
