Great water heater / cheap plastic drain valve.
This water heater was a direct replacement easy to replace my old unit. It provides plenty of hot water really fast. The one thing that is a big negative is the plastic drain valve; for the way over inflated price of this AO Smith could use a brass drain valve!

Typical install and operation
Typical install difficulties just because my basement floor slopes pretty steeply where the water heater goes, so getting it level is always a chore. Instructions were clear and packaging was adequate. One thing to the manufacture would be to add a note about lining up the exhaust baffle as mine moved during shipment and had I not pulled it up and rotated, it would have been cockeyed in the flue. Easy to install
Just got it in today so can’t speak to longevity. But it was well packed, easy to install, good instructions, heavy but hey they all are. Cold and hot water inlets were on the same side as the old heater and standard 3/4 npt same as the old so no 2nd trip for an adapter of something.

I purchased this one to replace the General Electric Gas Water Heater that I've had for the last 23 years! Have also had AO Smith products in the past that have also lasted a long while. Had contractor install, but could have done myself, since I had everything I needed already. Pilot lighting was not "immediate", but directions cover that (up to 1-1/2 minutes). Filled tank and let water run for about 20 minutes with faucets open to drain any impurities from the lines. Works as intended!
