I will say this is by far the worst water heater you could buy, followed by the worst warranty procedure and protocol. The water heater itself is easy to install, they all are, and they all have the same basic three connections. Cold Water In, Hot Water Out, and Electrical Connection. Failure after Failure

Two years ago, I needed a new water heater, and I wanted to get the best I could find for the next 20 years. In theory, the Heat pump should pay for itself in electric savings. In reality, the poor workmanship on this unit leaves it to be nothing but a headache. Add to that the slimy Warranty practices on lemon units, and you have nothing but a pile of junk, waste of time and a great deal of frustration. Leaking Side Outlet

My band new unit has a slow steady leak from the side outlet. The port is capped off at the factory, so this shouldn’t be leaking. Poor quality control. Buy a different brand.

On my second unit

This is my second unit. Bought the first unit in June 2023. It failed after 7 months. I paid $1000 to have it removed and the new unit installed. Now, the new unit installed on June 2024 is now failing. The issue is the heat pump stops working. I then have to go to Electric mode which is 10 times more expensive. I had to go to the Maryland Dept of Consumer Affairs to help get reimbursed from A O Smith. Now I have the same issue. Deeply disappointed with A O Smith.

Do not buy

I've had my super expensive hybrid water heater installed for 10 months. The water smells like rotten egg. The Anode Rod has gone bad already. We cannot get replacement parts in my home town of Orlando Fl....No one can shower at my house.....They want to ship me the part, regular, and it will take 4 weeks to get it. Really!!! Cheap piece of S---after paying $3,500 for it!!! and can't get it repaired. DON'T BUY IT!

Works for me

I have had this water heater for 6 months and it has worked well for me. It It is located in an unheated unfinished basement in a cold climate ( suburban Chicago). I installed it myself easily although it is heavy and I had to hire people to move it downstairs. It makes odd, refrigerator like noises, however since it is in the basement they are faint. I could not get the app to work but will try again at some point. I travel for work, and for now I use the manual buttons to do turn it do...

It works

So far so good. Its been running for 2 week. I installed it myself, the app works as expected. As any smart device goes, the app still looks like a proof of concept. But the features it has work. Most importantly, it has feature for smart grid technology which I have yet to setup.

Nothing but pain and suffering

The app doesn't communicate with the heater well, the app logs you out and then you have to re-register once you log back in. The heater is now just flashing three bars and refuses to heat the water. Absolutely 100% would not recommend this to even my enemies. Not AT ALL worth it.
