Selecting the right ladder
There are several types of Step Ladders. Standard Step ladders have an A-frame design, with spreaders that lock to hold each side in the correct position. Typically, steps run up only one side of the ladder. Twin-step ladders allow you to use both sides. Step ladders are a good choice if you don’t have a nearby surface that can support an extension ladder. They’re often used for indoor projects, such as installing a ceiling fan or painting crown moulding.
Platform ladders, also called podium ladders, are step ladders that have a surface for standing at the top instead of a traditional step. A rail extends above the platform, providing an extra point of contact for the user. These ladders are designed to provide additional comfort and security when you’re working at a fixed height.
Versatile telescoping step ladders have an adjustable A-frame design. You can set up these lightweight ladders in multiple configurations and use them on stairs.

Common ladder materials are Aluminum and Fiberglass. Aluminum ladders are corrosion-resistant, strong and lightweight, making them a durable choice that's easy to maneuver and carry. What in the...? Not AT ALL safe!
Purchased 10 months ago for constant use by two lightweights (100lb and 165lb). Everything appeared to be fine with the ladder but I gave it a quick inspection only to find that the rivet points on the back legs (without the steps) were giving out. Stunned, I immediately pulled up the purchase to check to check the warranty and guess what. APPARENTLY THERE ISN'T ONE! I mean - that can't be right. Can it? We have many ladders and use each where appropriate. This isn't a case of too much weight ...
