It's time to see the backyard wedding venue transformations for the five couples who had to postpone their June 2020 weddings.

Bringing Visions to Life

Earlier this month, Lowe’s introduced five couples who had seen their wedding plans turned upside-down as a result of the pandemic. With help from designer Bobby Berk, Lowe’s surprised these now-newlyweds from across the country with the opportunity to bring their wedding vision to life in their own backyards using products from Lowe’s wedding collections.

“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve seen just how important of a role our homes play in every season of life,” said Berk. “What I loved about this project with Lowe’s was the opportunity to not only help design someone’s dream wedding, but to create a beautiful backyard that they can enjoy for years to come.”

Nyanka + Brent — Brooklyn, New York

Style: Coastal Chic

It’s no secret that Nyanka and Brent’s space needed some serious TLC to become their wedding venue, but that didn’t stop Lowe’s and Berk from seeing the potential that was underneath the rubble. When the couple’s local Lowe’s store in Brooklyn, New York, heard about the opportunity, they immediately sent a group of Lowe’s Heroes to clean and renovate the space.

“Prior to Lowe’s reaching out, we were contemplating a virtual wedding, but this was more than we ever expected,” said Nyanka. “Our favorite piece was the white arbor — it tied everything together much better than I could have imagined.”

Playing on Nyanka’s early childhood days in the West Indies, Berk selected a series of teal and aqua pieces, balanced with neutral colors and tropical plants to keep the space light and airy.

Sonja + James — Oregonia, Ohio

Style: Farmhouse + Bohemian

Sonja and James’ DIY spirit was right up Lowe’s alley. The couple had a clear vision for the pieces they wanted to create for their big day, and Berk helped elevate the look with soft whites and deep blues, including a stunning loveseat that sat beneath the couple’s "Sonjames" sign.

“As simple as it seems, I think our favorite product was the lumber,” said Sonja. “It allowed us to create our wedding vision from scratch, from the large farm tables where our family dined together to the arch we were married under. It was so much fun to see our vision and the sketches we drew up come to life as each piece was built.”

Milo + Lance — Columbia, South Carolina

Style: Bohemian

When Lowe’s reached out to Milo and Lance with the idea of throwing them a backyard wedding, they had a lot of anxiety about speeding up their backyard renovation to make it happen. Thanks to their local Lowe’s store in Columbia, South Carolina, the burden was quickly taken off their shoulders as Lowe’s Heroes came on-site to clean up and support with landscaping.

“We had completely postponed all of our original plans for our wedding day, and sadly there wasn't going to be anything grand about that date,” said Milo. “Thankfully Lowe's helped to change that for the better, and we can’t thank Lowe’s and Bobby enough for making this day far, far better than what we originally thought it would be.”

Reminiscent of the destination wedding in Spain that the happy couple had originally planned, Milo and Lance’s backyard channeled the feel of a Mediterranean villa for their celebration. Berk leaned into natural wood and stonework, paired with greenery and a variety of lighting options, to turn the couple’s backyard into both a versatile entertaining space and relaxing environment.

Torrey + Zach — Houston, Texas

Style: Bohemian

College sweethearts Torrey and Zach fell in love with Lowe’s Bohemian Collection from the start. And with the help of Berk, the couple was able to bring that dream to life in their family’s backyard. Playing on the couple’s original plans to have succulents as a key component of their wedding décor, Berk recommended bold greenery in large planters to plus-up the space, paired with succulent centerpieces.

Textured neutrals, such as the tablecloths and ottomans, added character to the space without distracting from the natural aesthetic.

“Our favorite pieces were definitely the fire pit and ottoman sitting area,” said Torrey. “We love that we’ll be able to use these products in the future and have major ideas to use the artificial eucalyptus plants as a cute headboard.”

Alexis + Mark — Las Vegas, Nevada

Style: Farmhouse

For a couple with a beautiful cabin backdrop, Lowe’s variety of lighting options were a game changer in setting the ambience for Alexis and Mark’s special day.

After mentioning the string light display the couple envisioned to Berk, he added three dramatic chandeliers to turn the cozy, wooded venue into a rustic wonderland.

“Our favorite item was the chandelier that hung over the aisle,” said Alexis. “We shared our first dance under it and now it is hanging in our house, which is really special.”
