Place the two terra-cotta pots on their sides on a flat surface with the drain holes facing each other.
Place a fender washer on the 2-inch hex bolt followed by a rubber washer. Insert the bolt through the drain holes of both pots. Add a second rubber washer, fender washer, and hex nut. Tighten the nut with your fingers just enough to pull the pots together.
Check that the edges of the pot bases are flush and tighten the nut with your fingers. If necessary, use pliers to gently tighten the nut until the pots stop sliding against each other. Avoid overtightening the nut and cracking the pots.
Place the pot assembly where you want it and set the saucer into the opening of the upper pot. Estimated cost: $29.
You can lift the saucer out to empty rainwater. In snowy climates, store the entire table indoors during freezing weather.
