  • 6.25-in black steel plant hook
  • Valspar satin spray paint, Morning Mist

Step 1

Peel off the stickers and scrub the bucket with a grease-dissolving detergent to remove any oil. Then wash the plant hook and let dry.

Step 2

Spray at least two coats of paint on the bucket and plant hook (Morning Mist shown). Allow the final coat to dry overnight before using.

Step 3

Screw the plant hook to a post or wall where you want to hang the planter.

Paint a metal bucket and plant hook to match your house trim or in your favorite accent color. --Lowe’s Creative Ideas

If you plan to plant directly in the bucket, use a hammer and awl to punch drainage holes in the bottom. Otherwise, cut a disposable 3-quart plastic pot to fit inside the bucket and transfer the plant to the pot before placing it in the bucket. Then hang the bucket handle on the plant hook.
