Determine where you want to mount the shelf. The height should be low enough to easily reach things on top, but high enough for glasses to hang below. Also, allow enough distance from adjoining walls to pull glasses off the open ends of the racks. Using a level, mark a line where you want the center of the shelf.
Stick a 2-foot piece of painter’s tape stretched in a straight line to a flat work surface. Place the metal shelf-mounting bracket on the tape with one edge flush with a tape edge, and mark the bracket ends and mounting screw locations on the tape.
Transfer the tape to the shelf location on the wall, centering the mounting holes on the marked line. Drill holes for wall anchors as needed and remove the tape. Screw the mounting bracket to the wall.
Place the shelf on a work surface and position the stemware holders on the underside of the shelf so that the open ends face the ends of the shelf. Test-fit one of the glasses in a rack that’s taped or held in place to make sure the glasses won’t bump the wall later. Mark the rack mounting hole locations on the shelf and drill 1/16-inch pilot holes. Screw the rack in place and repeat for the other stemware rack.
Slide the shelf with the stemware holders onto the mounting bracket and add the glasses and drink accessories.
For a smaller, less expensive version, screw a single stemware rack centered on the underside of a 17.7-inch white shelf (#307248). Estimated cost: $18 instead of $25 for the drink station shown.
