Add Color to Cabinets
For the look shown, remove the doors, and stain them and the outsides of the boxes in Minwax Classic Gray. Tape off the door frames and paint the doors in Valspar Window Screen (#4004-4A). Or, just for fun, substitute a Valspar chalkboard finish paint to label the cabinet contents. This arrangement uses two 84-inch-tall unfinished pantry cabinets (#148428) and three two-door cabinets (#148436).
Good to Know:
Need a couple extra feet of parking space? Swap the pantry-height cabinets for standard wall cabinets mounted with the bottoms at least 6 inches above the hood of your car.
Tuck Away Tools
You can buy cabinets designed specifically for garage storage, but you can save money and get a custom look by using unfinished (or used) kitchen cabinets. This pantry cabinet is prepped to store power tools, and includes bungee cords to hang instruction manuals.
Sharp Idea for Blade Storage
Careless handling can chip the carbide teeth on saw blades. Protect blades by hanging them inside a cabinet on nails or screws. Use leftover space to hang sanding disks of different grits.
Make a Note of this Memo Holder
Cork tiles on the insides of the cabinet doors provide a place to tack up receipts, notes, shopping lists, and inspirations. For an alternative, cut painted hardboard dry-erase marker board to size and apply it to the panel with construction adhesive.
