Upper Midwest Gardening: Corner Garden Plan

Brought to you by Lowe's Creative Ideas

Lowe's regional gardening contributor Rebecca Kolls shares her plan for a sunny corner garden in the Upper Midwest.

Upper Midwest Corner Garden Plan

Every home has one: a corner or strip screaming for attention. Small projects such as this are perfect opportunities for novice gardeners. To enhance the space, add height and a focal point. Clematis winding around a trellis is the perfect solution on both counts. Pink gaura and purple Siberian iris kick off spring with pastel palettes. They complement the color of the house (always a good design tip) and add a romantic touch to an otherwise harsh corner. The purplish barberry and sedum and the bluish-gray 'Elijah Blue' grass offer color all season.

A. Clematis (Clematis 'Jackmanii')

B. Gaura (Gaura lindheimeri)

C. Dwarf Siberian iris (Iris siberica)

D. Barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Crimson Pygmy')

E. Blue fescue grass (Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue')

F. Sedum (Sedum 'Purple Emperor')
