Gulf Coast Gardening: Corner Garden Plan

Brought to you by Lowe's Creative Ideas

Need ideas for an unused corner in your yard? Here's a simple garden plan for the Gulf Coast from Lowe's regional gardening contributor Cynthia "Meems" Glover.

Gulf Coast Region Corner Flowerbed

Lush color in this butterfly garden gives this small space the feeling of added volume. Choose various shades of violet perennials to keep the color theme simple. Graduated heights and foliage textures add diversity. Salvia 'Black & Blue' and 'Mystic Spires' feature similar stature and spreading habits, and soften the wall at the back of the border. Keep both deadheaded for continued bloom.

Fernleaf lavender's airy, gray-green foliage mixed with clumping, dark-green Angelonia provide a lush middle layer. Rounded mounds of continually blooming Brazilian button flower highlight the edge in light purple. Native Stokes aster hugs the outer border.
