Instructions

Step 1

From the 4 x 4 board, cut four pieces 10 inches long, four pieces 8 inches long, and four pieces 5-1/2 inches long. (One board provides enough parts to make one present in each of three sizes.) Group the parts by size.

Good to Know

Make certain groups of parts are all cut to the same length by installing a miter saw stop. Cut carefully -- the three presents use nearly all of the board after allowing for saw cuts.

Step 2

Apply wood glue to one face of a board and clamp it to the face of another board of the same length with the edges and ends flush. Repeat for the other two boards of that length and pairs of boards of the other two lengths. Glue and clamp the matching pairs of boards together on their faces to form blocks 7 inches wide on each side and 5-1/2 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches tall. Let dry for at least two hours and remove the clamps.

Step 3

Lightly paint the blocks (La Fonda Fireberry, Belle Grove Spruce, and Montpelier Red Velvet shown).

Step 4

Cedar lumber and burlap ribbons mean these ornamental presents can survive being displayed outdoors. --Lowe’s Creative Ideas

Wrap wide ribbon along the sides and top and fasten the ends to the bottom of a block with hot glue. (This should cover the wood seams on each side.) Use the remaining ribbon to fashion a bow for the top, and glue it in place. Repeat for the other two decorations.
