Paint the wooden dowels black. To prevent smudging, place on top of blocks to dry.
Place the bat pattern on the black shelf liner. Trace around the bat using a black permanent marker (it shows up on the black shelf liner). Use sharp scissors to cut out nine bats. Pass a needle and black thread through the center of each bat leaving plenty of thread to work with later. Double knot the ends of the string to secure bats on thread.
Attach three dowels together using a hot glue gun. Cross dowels approximately 4 inches from the ends and glue one end of each dowel above its mate, and the other end below. Let dry.
Cut three equal lengths of black thread. Ours are 14-inches long but you can vary your length depending on how low you want it to hang. Attach thread where each dowel crosses and tie together at the top. Use a paper clip to hang.
Hang a bat in the center of each dowel and a bat at each end. Experiment with different lengths of thread until you find a pleasing balance. It helps to have another person holding the mobile steady while determining the best balance.
