From snowflakes and icicles outside to glittery Christmas ornaments and sugary treats awaiting inside, Christmas is the season of sparkle and sheen. Our allen + roth™ Christmas decor mixes frosty, shiny finishes with classic red and silver hues and sophisticated touches of black. Plus, the black pieces have a plain chalkboard finish that lets you personalize them with your own designs and messages, making this elegant look feel friendly and approachable.

Decorative Deer

Give guests a frosty, festive, and friendly reception. Deck the front door with a frosted wreath (#674151), flank the entry with a pair of fully decorated artificial Christmas trees (#674086), and add live garland on the railings. For a whimsical touch, station lighted deer (#677463, #677462) on the steps.

Welcoming Wreath

Spread good cheer as soon as guests walk in. Create an entry-table array by hanging a frosted wreath with an attached chalkboard (#674151) on a handsome DIY stand made from a table leg, a deck post cap, and a peg. Add an easy-to-make card holder with the same black finish and a trio of votive holders (#675022). Use the card holder year-round for art, photos, mail, or books.

Greeting Treat

Set up a full-size Christmas tree (#688922) in a high-profile spot -- like this foyer with staircase -- and go to town. Start with silvery picks (#677469) as a tree topper and loops of crystal garland (#674213), then add Christmas ornaments, including traditional balls (#674137) and wispy white see-through shapes (#674215). Decorate the railing with live garland embellished with sprigs of greenery, crystal garland, and ornament balls. Top the post with a ribbon bow, a personalized black allen + roth™ ornament (#677391), and a red stocking (#674126). Amid the gifts, group allen + roth™ mercury glass-look trees (#674206, #674205) with an allen + roth™ frosted holly ball set in a shiny metal bucket (#674152).

Black nutcracker figures.

Chalk Talk

It’s fun to personalize chalkboard-paint finishes with your own messages and designs. Here are some tips:

  • Use a computer to find and print letters, shapes, and clip art to copy by hand. Fonts like Wingdings offer a variety of ornamental characters to incorporate into designs.
  • Sketch out designs on paper first to gauge the size and spacing needed to make everything fit, especially when doing letters and words.
  • To get a bright white, dip the chalk in water before drawing and keep it wet. For crisp lines, sharpen the chalk tip in a small pencil sharpener (not electric).
  • Inexpensive chalk works fine, but for larger and more ornate designs, consider using chalk pencils, pens, or markers with different tip sizes.
  • Fix mistakes and smudges with a damp cotton swab or the tip of a wet rag.
  • If you wish to preserve chalk designs, apply a clear fixative spray from an art store. Some chalk artists swear by ordinary hair spray.

Designer Tip

Poinsettias and amaryllis are favorite Christmastime blooms, but for a different look this year, try paperwhites. This beautiful and fragrant variety of spring-flowering narcissus bulbs can be easily “forced” to bloom indoors for the holidays.
