Dogs and cats come in hundreds of sizes, breeds, and colors, so customize your decoration to suit your pets. Download the ornament photos, with lists of paint colors, to provide a general guide.

Step 1

Lightly sand the finial or table leg with a 220-grit sanding sponge in the direction of the wood grain. From shelf liner, cut the ears and tail to suit your pet; glue in place. (For the white cat, cut, paint, and glue the tail in place after painting the body.)

Step 2

Apply the overall color on the head and body and let dry. Add secondary colors as needed for the face and body and let dry. For lighter shades, such as the chest of the yellow lab, mix Ultra White with the body color.

Step 3

Lightly pencil in outlines for the eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers. Then add a tail in the back. Using an artist's brush, paint the outlines for the facial features and fill in to suit the look of your pet.

Step 4

Insert a screw eye at the top of the finial or table leg. Make a loop from twine or ribbon to hang the ornament.
