Room For Improvement
We have three platinum storm doors. The first one is an early production model with a heavy duty screen which we like. The latter models have both a removable window and screen. The screen is flimsy. Two of the hidden closers have failed within the first four years. Replacement parts are pricey. When the closers function properly they are nice but once they fail the door operation becomes problematic.

The door itself is seems very nice. Time will tell on the roll screen. ONLY problem is the preinstalled screws used for installation. They do NOT work if you are putting it into fiber cement trim. Don't even try. Go purchase screws similar to the 4 red head screws. I ended up using 2 1/2" deck screws and was careful on how far a drove them in once I hit the taper of the head. worked well. Otherwise, nice door. The plastic little end pieces for the sill are pretty cheap looking.

Started out great.
I decided on this door because it looked durable and had a high end look. Since about 6 months after install we have had nothing but trouble with this door. I've tried reaching out to Larson about this, but their hours aren't easy to accommodate for those of us who work, epecially in a more Eastern time zone. Their website wants low quality small photos that my phone simply can't take to communicate the problems we're having with this door. It will only slam shut at this point, unless it is warm...

I purchased this door because my previous storm doors only lasted 5 to 6 years. This door has a "Lifetime" warranty, so I decided to spend almost $1000 (after installation and options) to get what was supposed to be one of the best storm doors made. In less than 3 years the dampener went out making the door extremely dangerous. It slams closed and could easily take off a finger. This door comes with a very wide threshold. Also the threshold is made up of a combination of white plastic and aluminum. Makes for a very cheap appearance

So it is both Lowes & Larson causing the issues here! The Larson door does seem to be a good product on the surface but it comes with a major design problem. The frame that the door sits in is sealed during installation, the problem occurs when you leave your house lock your door and release the storm door, you would think the door latches, it does not! So while you are gone any big wind can frip your door right off the hinges. I am told by Lowes installer that I should have bought a cheaper...
