What Customers Are Saying
The 20-gallon air compressor offers good value for light-duty tasks like inflating tires and running small air tools. However, it is notably louder than advertised, taking over 20 minutes to reach maximum pressure. Some users have also reported reliability issues, including leaks, stripped parts, and the compressor running continuously without shutting off.

Being in construction, i am used to these upright compressors. Most of ours are a little bigger around the 26 and 30 gallon models. Surprisingly, it is alot easier to load into a covered work trailer. The sound decibels are what i am accustomed to. There are quieter ones on the market but if i'm working in a large area or another room, the sound hasn't bothered me. It seems to take longer to fill the tank compared to our other air compressors. So far, i am pleased with it. It fits in a ti...

Disposable product- DO NOT BUY
I bought this air compressor because I felt it was a decent brand that would last. I got the 20 Gallon one because I felt it would do anything that I needed, but have only used it to air tires up and blow off the driveway on occasion. After 11 months I noticed it had trouble cutting off when it reached the right pressure and started leaking air. It finally just would not stop running so I decided to take it back to the store. If you google Kobalt Air Compressor it says 2-5 years for defects, so ...
Constantly fixing this thing
These are JUNK. The unit constantly rattles something loose. First the air exhaust copper tube. I fixed this at least three times. They rattle loose and break. Replacement parts? Forget it. Had to construct my own, bend it into shape and flange it myself. You can NOT reuse the old one. The pressure is high enough that the copper tube expands ever so slightly and they will no longer fit standard fittings. Next, the compressor piston mounting bolts. Even with a lock washer, these rattle loose and ...

Fairly loud.
So far, so good. I replaced a slightly larger Kobalt unit that failed under warranty. The previous unit had “Quiet Technology” that does not appear to be available at this time. The new unit is much louder than the previous one, thus the 4 out of 5 rating.

Worked great... but only for a short time..
I purchased one of these back in 2020 and kept it in the garage. I'm a home owner and a DYI'er... NOT a contractor who uses the compressor daily. Shortly after a year of ownership, I started having issues with the compressor. Lucky for me that I became "acquaintances" with a few of the employees at the local Lowes and I was able to have my compressor exchanged at no charge for a new one. Again, the new unit worked great for several months and it sat "un-used" in the garage. I recently decided t...

45MIN TO FILL!!!!
DO NOT BUY this air compressor unless you have a lot of time on your hands!!! This air compressor takes about 45min to fill, and if you use one tool with it it will run low on air within seconds. Then you will have to wait another 15-20min for it to get back up above 80psi. I wish I NEVER waisted my money on this piece of junk!!!
Not a quality product
Purchased compressor just over 1 year ago. Used maybe 10 times and stated to hear rattle. Pulley was warped and loose. Contacted Kobalt directly and they told us to go to Lowe’s. Lowes refused to replace because it was just over 1 year when purchased. Kobalt offered no assistance nor offered to replace or provide new parts. Do not recommend, do not purchase, very cheap product.
Cheap parts result in Failure
The vertical air compressor works great, until you surpass a year or so. That's when the simplicity of the regulator knob, which is made of plastic, looses it's seal and does not work properly. The result is the knob that allows for air flow into the tool pressure side does not allow for air to flow. This operates the entire compressor, which means the entire compressor is flawed and ready for the landfill. I would not recommend this to anyone. Lowe's had me call the KOBALT line, where I receiv...
