Had trouble getting the first blade installed correctly until I followed the advice to view the Stanley 10-788 video. The Irwin package instructions are wholly inadequate, and while I hope this tool will now work fine for me, I won't be in a hurry to buy other Irwin products when package details are so shoddy. great bang for the buck

I've been using this knife for the last two years from everything to sheetrock, carpet, and even shingles. knife fits my hand extremely comfortable and doesn't feel like it's digging into the bottom of my palm. good storage for blades. overall I'm probably going to order a few more only reasoning is I misplace my utility knives more than my keys

First blade installation is a mystery

The most recent review on this product helped me figure it out. How can package instructions AND the online resource both not make a single mention of how to install the first blade? I got the help I need from the last/first post of a user (hold yellow button down while the thumb driven blade extender is as far forward as possible) then insert the blade to lock it in place. I'm a little disappointed before ever using the product, but maybe it will be a champ in my tool kit.

Great knife

I finally had to throw away my 8 year old Irwin knife so I figured I should go with another one. The back of the knife folds up to allow access to a blade compartment. Changing blades is easy and tool-less. Extend the blade out like you are going to cut, push the yellow button and slide the blade out. Stick a new one in and you are good to go. No unscrewing anything. The shape feels nice in the hand and the rubber grip is easy to hold.

Packaging makes initial use very difficult

The packaging is embedded in the knife and the only way I could remove it was to disassemble the knife. I could not figure out to re-assemble it until I found the video below (search for Stanley 10-788 utility knife blade change and assembly if link does not work). The irwin knife apparently is a knock off of the Stanley 10-788. There are some instructions on the packaging but I am too old to read 6 point font.

Not as good as the Stanley.

I bought this because it look to be the same knife as the Stanley brand of which I own several and have used often. Unfortunately, though it looks good, it doesn’t work as well. The mechanism that catches and releases the blade fits loosely leaving the blade feeling unsecured though it was. It was also difficult to extend and retract the blade from the blade release position. I guess that if you’ve never used the Stanley then this would be OKish for you.

Good design, robust tool.

It is similar/same as a Stanley design. I’ve had several of the Stanley’s and they never broke, just grew legs and walked off. This feels the same in the hand, is easy to use, and carries extra blades in the handle. The blade changes are super easy, no hunting around for a screwdriver to unscrew the halves of the handle like the conventional design.

Great knife horrible packaging

The knife itself is great. It stores extra blades and works as it should. The packaging leaves a lot to be desired as you pretty much have to disassemble the knife completely to get the plastic hang tag out. If you cut the tag and try to pull it out, you run the risk of bending the blade holder.

good utility knife

Was looking for a basic utility knife but decided to "upgrade" to this model. Works well and is comfortable on the hands. Packaging was difficult to remove. Had to take knife apart and is much less straight forward than a basic utility knife but working fine now.

Utility Knife

We bought this utility knife to replace a missing one. Works great! Ironically, the knife that is missing replaced another knife that went missing (left behind somewhere?) many years prior. We bought an orange one thinking we couldn't possibly loose track of that one. And yet, here we are....replacing the orange knife. LOL
