Forget the 3000 model

I bought the 300 model about 15-20 years ago and it still performs better the 5 years old 3000 model. In my opinion the 3000 model was JUNK! I keep putting the new away and going back to the 300 model. It was My mistake buying it as it wa nothing but problems.

Cheaply made, poor attachment integrity

Before any use, I am already out $5! The mandrel that you use to attach cutting wheels to the tool is poorly made. The screw in the mandrel was stuck and I needed a vice grip and a drill to remove it. I could see the crossthread lines - when I googled, I could see this is an extremely common issue. I was unable to screw the piece back into the mandrel head. I also found that the locking mechanism is also poorly made - many on Google had issues with the lock breaking when trying to solve this...

Small, convenient second unit

I have used a Dremel Model 732 with a foot pedal for many years, and it has worked well in my workshop. I bought this Model 3000 to have a lighter, more portable unit that I can take to the garage or my boat. Conveniently, it fits on the same stand I made for the 732. I like the fact that many tools are interchangeable with the small handpiece on the old unit. The 3000 works well, although it lacks the power of my older unit for heavier work.

cannot use it out of the box

Why are there no collets included in the box? The only collet required is the largest, and it would not be expensive to include it. Why not state on the box that collets are not included? I had to make extra trips, in winter, to buy kit 4485. It was not available in the store where I bought the Dremel. Perhaps I only need the Dremel chuck, but it is not made clear. What is the purpose of the collet nut that is included? I cannot figure out its use, and I have studied the manual. I have s...

best arts & crafts tool I've ever had!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] the 3000-1/25H is the best tool in my arts & crafts workbench! with the right bit (I often use dental burrs from my orthodontist) I can even carve artsy figures in stones (like agates from the Oregon coast)... and the drill press I also have makes for the most accurate drilling and milling machine for my HO and O scale model railroad and wooden ship-building hobbies... if you're an artist, hobbyist or craftsman, you NEED a Dremel with the Tool ...
