What Customers Are Saying
The Bostitch roofing nail gun is generally considered a high-quality and reliable tool that performs well for most users. Reviewers praise its smooth operation, ease of use, and durability, with many reporting it has held up well to extensive use. However, some users have experienced issues such as jamming, inconsistent nail depth, and double firing. The quality control and reliability of this model seem somewhat inconsistent, with some users reporting flawless performance while others had significant problems. Proper maintenance and oiling is recommended to ensure optimal performance.

It seems that Bostich has stopped making the housings out of magnesuim. I picked this nailgun because it claimed to be the lightest on the market at 4.9 lbs. I weighed it, out of the box with no nails in it and it was 5 lb 10.5 oz. Bought an older version (same model, RN46-1) and it wieighs just over 5lb. All the pictures online still show the Magnesium tag on the gun, but that is not what you're getting!
Used to shingle a 6x8' shed...
First of all, not a professional, old roof nailer I got at HF lasted 14 years and I shingled probably 100,000sq ft of roofing over the years. Bought this on sale last week. I'm literally shingling a 6x8ft treehouse with a 10x14ft roof and it failed after an hour of use. Kept jamming with the hammer fully extended, no wire caught, used different nail brand (both Bostitich and FastGrip). Kept jamming with the hammer fully extended, finally seized and o had to take the tool apart only to find the...
Hello Jon55304AndoverMN and thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I'm sorry you weren't pleased with the Bostitch 1.75-in ...
Fails waaayyyy too soon
I'm not a professional roofer, but I probably do 3-4 roofs a year on rental properties, charity events, helping friends. Every day I oil the gun with a few drops, and have never dropped off the roof. These guns fail...and waaayyy too fast for not even using them daily. I probably get 6-8 roofs per gun before the feeder fails, or it starts leaking air. I had one for ~1 year, approximately 4 roofs and it failed. Went to ship back for the warranty, and they claimed that it MUST be wear and t...
Hello Nick, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on the nailer and I'm sorry to hear of the issues with the nailer and warranty...
1 stars are uncalled for
These Bostitch roofing guns are some of the best made. I have been a roofing contractor for 12 years. These are all I've ever used. We install thousands of squares each year. These guns are very reliable. When there is an issue, rebuild kits are readily available and extremely easy to install. I'd venture to say that one of two things are getting one star reviews. First, people are just weekend warriors and do not understand how to use the tool. One review said they were using close to 150 psi....
Better than they used to be
I have been shingling for 20+ years always used hitatchi then metabo bought them out and there quality has went down hill where a new gun might get three months before it needs o ring kit I bought this a month ago last bostich I had was the original ridge runner which this doesn’t hold a candle to but works well enough only things I don’t like if the coil isn’t perfect it will jam and the feeder bar likes the whack your finger if you don’t have a good hold on it recoil is mild and over a pretty...
Not a quality product and questionable Manufacture
I bought one of these nailers last Monday and when I got it back to the truck and opened the box, I noticed the zip strip used to secure the tool to the inner packaging was cut off. I pulled the tool out of the box and could instantly tell this was a used tool. It had s ratches, rust, and dirt on and inside the tool. I went back inside and went to the cashier that handled the purchase and showed it it was a used tool. She was very nice and told me to grab another one and she did what she nee...
People don’t know
Best gun for speed nailing without a doubt. Been shingling 5 days a week for years and I’d never buy a different gun. The loader is a plus. Some jerk wad was complaining of blow throughs and I just want to respond by saying you have to adjust the pressure in your compressor and/or depth adjustment on the gun. I’ve never experience something with this gun that couldn’t be corrected with a little experience. I don’t think people understand that real shinglers are constantly adjusting their gun ...
First time out of the box, a nice gun
I am used to older Hitachi roofing guns, but have several other Bostich nail guns that have worked well and dependably over the years. Liked the sale price on this one so I went for it. I’ve only used it once so far but liked the adjustable shingle guide and did not have any problems with under-firing. The dry fire lock out feature caught me off guard, but I like that it has it. Nice weight, too.
Great nail gun!
Bought this gun over the cheaper Bostitch and the much more expensive Hitachi guns. I wanted something decent, but I didn't need to spend a ton on one. Initially just bought this to help a friend roof and it was worth it's weight in gold (what little weight that is!). Light gun with great features (trust me, the one hand coil cover opening will pay for itself once you shoot for anything longer than a few hrs). Used this sucker for 3 full days of roofing and it performed flawlessly. The only prob...
Failed after five nails
Buyer beware: This gun does not come with a male quick release fitting like most guns do (you must purchase one), it does not come with the necessary air tool oil (and luckily I happened to have some from one of the other guns I own) and it does not come with a case. There are cheaper and more reliable alternatives that have these features. The only good thing I can say about the gun is that the loading mechanism, which operates in a single step open/close, is a nice feature. The dial-a-depth i...
