I held off on buying one of these for a couple years based on poor reviews for both battery life and firmware issues/defects. Apparently Bosch fixed the firmware a few years back. On alkalines, it does have parasitic drain, which is a huge negative, so take them out if you aren't using it daily. On the li-ion pack, there is no parasitic drain (?!?) even over a month's time, and the life is fantastic. not accurate
used a glm 50c for years before it got stolen from a jobsite... this seemed to have the same feature set in a more rugged build and a green laser instead of red. the previous one i could use to measure baseboard and crown molding to 1/32" and, cut to the measurement, my piece would fit perfectly. bought one of these and it was over 1/4" off!.. returned it and bought a second with the same result. returned that one too... a measuring tool is useless if it isn't accurate.

Does not work, the green laser does NOT come on until the measure button is pressed so good luck imagining where the laser might point when you get it to show I thought I was doing something wrong, but I just leqarned I'm not. Probably the best out there but it could be better
I have been using this for a few projects lately and it is very convenient in many (but not all) situations. In other words, you're not going to throw out your tape measurer, but it is accurate when it's practical to use. My main gripe with it is that it is not dimensionally stable like a level. I wish it had more flat surface area on all sides off of which to reference for measure. I got this tool about a year ago. Previously had basic AA battery Bosch laser measure, which still works. That product was more basic and lasted more than 5 years. Bosch GLM165-27CGL laser
I originally bought the GLM165-27CG. The L on this model # gets you a lithium battery module that can charge via USB-C either in or out of the laser, & also on. Will also use AA batteries with included battery cover. I have got 167' & see the dot in tree leaves. Should have come with a wrist strap.

Works great. Like the rechargeable battery too. Even using it to measure the height of trees although it can be a bit tricky with the fluttering of leaves and uneven bark to get a good reference point. A branch is best. Also, it doubles as a level and helps set cut angles for sloping ramps or angled sides. If set level on a tripod, can use to measure ground elevations.
