The Selection Process

When you buy Lowe’s Garden Club Select™ bedding plants and products, you get premium performance. Our team of garden experts selects and tests only the finest varieties, ensuring you always get better growth, better blooms, better longevity and the confidence to grow your best. Plants that make it to Lowe's Garden Club Select™ originate from years of tireless evaluations and trials, with one ultimate objective in mind — to ensure you, the customer, will be successful with this product. On average, it takes between 5 to 7 years for an item to even be considered for Lowe's Garden Club Select™.

The journey begins with a selection process that features as many as 60,000 offspring of parent plants with desirable traits. These offspring are scrutinized for optimal flower colors, habits, uniformity and performance. During year two to year four, new plants are grown from seed until they produce a flower with countless rounds of selections. These selections occur in multiple sites around the world, and are vital to decrease the number of candidates that fulfill all of the selection criteria required.

The process doesn’t end there. During the next few years, stocks of seeds or actual plant cuttings are built, which means enough stock of the best performing plant is developed, allowing mass production for nationally or regionally introduction.

Rounding out the process is an analysis phase, which measures the plant’s performance during transit from our expert grower’s facility to retail. The plant is evaluated several times to assess the distance it can travel to ensure the Lowe's Garden Club Select™ product looks its freshest and performs at its best in your garden.

Now that you have some insight into the Lowe's Garden Club Select™ choice process, your reward is beautiful garden beds, planters and hanging baskets that will be the envy of your neighborhood.
