Step 1

Working in a well-ventilated area, spray-paint the lightbulb white. It's fine to get paint on the screw base -- it will be covered.

Step 2

To make the snowman's top hat, measure the diameter of the screw base, and then cut a circle of veneer about an inch larger in diameter. If you're using an ornament, cut a circle about 2-1/2 inches in diameter. Adjust the size if the ornament is much larger or smaller. Use a utility knife to cut a hole in the center of the veneer circle large enough to fit around the screw base.

Step 3

Cut a strip of veneer that's 1-1/2 inches high and long enough to wrap around the screw base of the ornament (about 5-1/2 inches). Place the circle from Step 2 on the screw base and wrap the veneer strip into a ring around the base; check that the hat looks right. Remove and color both pieces using a black marker.

Step 4

When dry, glue the ring of veneer onto the lightbulb screw base as shown in the picture. Glue the wrapped veneer circle on top to form the hat. Use wire, string, or a cable tie to hold the veneer until it dries.

Step 5

Glue one wire connector to the center of the ornament for a nose. Draw two black eyes on the lightbulb using a black marker.

Step 6

Cut one strip from the mop, approximately 9 inches in length. Wrap around the base of the bulb to form a scarf and glue, as shown in the photo. Let dry, then hang!
