Build Picture Frame Shelves

Position the pieces to form a box that matches the size of your frame. Place a thin line of wood glue along each cut and glue them together. Secure them with nails.

Apply wood glue along the front of the box and set the frame on top. Put 1-1/4-in brad nails through the frame and into the box to hold it together. Measure the box and using the dimensions, cut a thin plywood backing. Nail it to the back of the box.

Fill any nail holes with wood filler. Sand and paint the framed shelf.

Attach picture hanging hardware to the back on either side of the shelf, into the 1 x 8. Measure the distance between the picture hanging hardware and mark two spots on the wall. Insert screws into your marks and hang the shelf by placing the picture hanging hardware onto the screws.
