Lowe's Plant Tags

A lot of the "secrets" of good gardening really aren't secrets at all. The information can be found right on the plant tag. Sometimes matching the right plant with your home gardening environment can be a challenge. Lowe's has made it a lot easier with our color-coded plant tags.

The most important piece of information is the plant's sunlight requirements. Lowe's Plant tags are color-coded to tell you the light requirements at a glance.

Plant's sunlight requirements
  • Low Light.Purple for Low Light — shady areas with no direct sun (but not completely dark, such as the north side of a building).
  • Part Sun.Orange for Part Sun — a half-day of direct sun, or a full day of filtered light.
  • Full Sun.Yellow for Full Sun — 6-8 hours of sun a day.

In addition to sunlight requirements, the tags tell you:

  • Water Requirements - moisture and soil instructions.

  • Cold Hardiness - lowest temperature the plant can tolerate.

  • Size - height and width at maturity.

  • Growth Rates - how fast the plant will reach maturity under normal circumstances.

  • Spacing - instructions on how far apart to plant.
