Building the Caddy

Follow these steps to build your own hard drive caddy.

Step 1: Measure the width and depth of your hard drive.

Step 2: Add 1" to both the width and depth, and then mark these measurements on the birch plywood. Using a circular saw, cut wood following your markings. Sand any rough edges.

Step 3: Based on the measurements from Step 2, measure and mark two lengths and two widths along the craft board. Cut the four pieces, and then place them along the edges of the cut plywood, mitering the corners to fit. These pieces will serve as the trim.

Step 4: Using wood glue and brads, attach the trim pieces along the edges of the plywood.

Step 5: Attach the casters to each corner using 1/2" wood screws.

Step 6: Stain the piece to complement the room. We used wood stain in Red Mahogany.

Step 7: Once the stain is completely dry, seal the piece with polyurethane.
