Focal Point. Make a mod move with simple geometric shapes.
Create a clever focal point
by painting a shape a few hues deeper than your wall color, and then placing a decorative element inside.
Picture frame.Create a charming frame from a door hinge.
Copy two favorite photographs
onto heavyweight paper, and cut to 1 5⁄8" x 3 3⁄4". Lay a 4" corner hinge flat, and attach photos to either side using spray adhesive. Spray the entire hinge with clear acrylic to seal the photos.
Shower curtain.Customize your shower curtain.
Attach a 3⁄8" grommet, following the manufacturer’s directions, to the curtain at each of the existing curtain-ring holes. Purchase two packages each containing 6'
of beaded chain from the Lowe's lighting department, and cut them down to 12 (10") lengths. String the chain through the holes around the rod, and attach the chain ends with brass connectors, securing the curtain to the rod.
Basket feet.Take baskets to a new level with drapery finials.
Cut four 1 1⁄2" squares from a (18"-long)
1⁄2" x 2" piece of craft board, and glue a square to the “floor” of the basket in each corner. When the glue is dry, turn the basket over and drill a 9⁄16" pilot hole through the bottom of the basket into each wooden square. Screw a drapery finial into each hole.
Key holder.Keep keys handy with this colorful holder.
Cut a 6" long piece from a (2' long) 1 x 6 poplar board.
Paint the piece using your choice of two colors. We used American Tradition, Island Orange #2010-2, eggshell, and American Tradition, Bright Red #1010-2, satin. Paint the first color, and allow to dry. Next, find the center, and tape off a square grid. Paint opposing corners with your second color. Let dry, and remove tape. Glue 1⁄2" x 2" washers to two squares (as shown) with clear Liquid Nails adhesive. Attach three 7⁄8" red cup hooks, evenly spaced, to the bottom. Attach two strap mirror hangers to the back, and hang on your wall.
Framed art.Dress up an ordinary broom for Halloween decor or to complete
a witch's costume.

Paint the bristles and handle of a standard corn broom with black spray paint. It may require several coats. Stripe the handle using 2" strips of 3⁄4" orange electrical tape placed at 1" intervals.

Framed art.Set up a gallery that can change with each new masterpiece.
Install a curtain rod at a level suitable for those viewing the artwork. Coordinating rings with clips can hold pieces of all sizes.
Jack o lanternGreet guests with this oversize Halloween luminaria.
It’s made from a 6-gallon galvanized trash can.
Sketch a simple jack-o’-lantern face on the can, and drill holes along the outline using a 3⁄8" drill bit. (Note: This is a job for an adult.) Prime the exterior of the can and lid using metal primer. Allow to dry, and then paint with orange spray paint. To finish the project, cut a leaf shape from sandpaper or cardboard, and spray-paint it green. Attach it to the handle using 2' of green electrical wire curled to mimic a vine. Place a 6-volt utility light or, if it will be supervised, candles inside the luminaria to make it glow. Use your luminaria as a storage container after Halloween for other seasonal items.
