Inroduction

When your toddler graduates from a crib to a bed, it is the perfect time to re-evaluate her bedroom and make any necessary design changes. More than likely, the biggest piece of furniture to change (and the one with the biggest price tag) is the bed. Therefore, longevity and quality are important considerations when it comes to choosing one.

Already the parents of little Joe, Dawn and Doug Cannon were ready for the arrival of their second child, a girl. Aware of the lightning speed at which infants grow, they got ahead of the game by building a bed that Eleanor Rose could use for several years. They selected a classic style—painted white and created from four newel posts, beaded board, and smooth wood. Keeping future slumber parties in mind, the Cannons also added a trundle bed for space-saving versatility. It's the perfect bed to grow into.

Side table and lamp shade. Trundle bed.
Great for storing bedtime stories, this table is painted green to match the walls (American Tradition, English Spring #92-39B, satin). Inset: Attach a floral ribbon to brighten the shade of a reading lamp. A pastel palette of florals and solids creates an enchanting room for a little girl. The coordinating rug provides a soft spot for playing on the floor.
