How-To Steps

Always practice your technique and test your color choices on poster board before beginning your project.

    Early American Cream.
    Roll on a base coat.
  1. Be sure to tape off woodwork and other areas where you do not want to apply this finish.

  2. Apply the base coat with a 3/8"-nap roller to the entire surface. For best results, follow the instructions on the base coat label. Remove tape and allow to dry overnight.

  3. Apply gold metallic glaze with a paintbrush or wallpaper brush.
  4. Reapply tape. Apply metallic glaze with a 3/8" roller or nylon paintbrush. Work in 4' to 6' wide wall sections.

  5. Using a wallpaper smoothing brush, work through the wet glaze in a series of large overlapping arcs. This sweeping motion allows the base color to show through the glaze in certain areas, creating the look of brushed metal. Remove tape and allow to dry overnight.

  6. After the first coat has dried, you may add a second coat for a richer metallic look.
