Painting the Hutch
A hardware hook and pink ribbon hold fabric back to form an elegant curtain.

Bright colors bring this dollhouse to life. We used a high-gloss paint for easy cleaning. Here, the white base coat combines with the subtle pink interior to make the perfect complementary piece for this girl's room. The trim was painted a light green to match the walls.

When painting the hutch, first prime the surface using an oil-based primer. Tape off the outside edges, and then paint the inside of the cubbies. Apply as many coats as desired. Once the paint is dry, remove the tape, and then tape off the inside edges and trim. Apply the base coat. Remove the tape after the paint is thoroughly dry, and then tape off to the edge of the trim. Paint the trim. Follow the same process for priming and painting the dresser. (Note: When painting the dresser, remove all drawers to keep them from sticking.)

Decorative Touches

For a final accent, fabric was added to form a curtain over the shelves of the dollhouse and to soften the lines of the hutch. A bright plaid was selected to match the paint. A tension rod installed inside the top secures the fabric panels. Each panel was measured to fit the length and width of the opening. Hardware hooks were primed and painted green to match the trim. Attached to the sides of the hutch, they serve as decorative curtain hooks. Ribbons pull back the fabric for easy access to the shelves.
