Saturday Morning Success: A Child's Growth Chart

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

It's amazing how quickly children grow. It seems as though one day your son or daughter is barely 2 feet tall, and the next day he or she is towering above you. Start keeping a record of these precious days by making a growth chart. Use a pen to mark your child's height, and label the month and year next to it. It's a fantastic way to watch your little one grow, plus it becomes a delightful memory maker. Lowe's is happy to provide this information as a service to you.

How To Make a Growth Chart

Step 1: Using a piece of 4' x 8' 1/4" plywood board, sketch a freehand design of a carrot. It should be about 40" wide and 72" high. Print out a copy of a carrot template.

Step 2: Following directions included with the Roto Zip Spiral Saw, cut out your pattern from the 1/4" plywood board. Sand rough edges.

Step 3: Prime the entire board, and allow to dry.

Step 4: Apply layered paint colors according to photograph. Be sure to allow dry time between coats.

Step 5: Run a tape measure vertically along the chart, and mark feet and inches lightly on the board with a pencil. (Note: Consider whether or not you need to account for any base moulding. For example, if there is a 4" base moulding in the room, you'll need to factor in this measurement on your chart). Use black paint to cover the foot and inch pencil markings. Finally, clarify the dimensions by painting the correct number at each foot increment.

Step 6: Secure the chart to the wall with brass nails.
